Lecturer at Christie’s Education

Christie’s Education is accredited regionally by the University of Glasgow, the New York State Board of Regents or an equivalent authority in Asia to provide opportunities for study at PhD, MA, BA and Certificate levels. It also provides on-going adult education opportunities through various short programme options.
The purpose of this role is to undertake teaching and tutorial responsibilities on courses as part of a team reporting overall to the Academic Director or Director of Studies.

Key Accountabilities/Activities

1. Effective planning
* Prepare classes commensurate with relevant course aims and curricula before start of each term subject to approval of Programme Director.
* Teach classes as planned and approved by the Programme Director
* Contribute to planning and development of overall programmes where appropriate
* Maintain currency of expertise in areas taught
* Prepare and coordinate distribution of teaching materials for classes taught

2. Lecturing and Tutoring
* Teach on relevant Masters, PgDip, MA (Hons) and Certificate programmes as required, with strong focus on Undergraduate teaching.
* Take responsibility for specific tutorial groups as agreed with the Programme Director.
* Undertake additional teaching duties as assigned by the Programme Director and deliver lectures if appropriate

3. Assessing course work and providing developmental feedback in tutorials and through written comments
* Assess and grade student work, give appropriate feedback and support students to improve performance in written work and oral presentation
* Supervise and monitor students in accordance with appropriate regulations published by accrediting bodies and Christie’s Education
* Provide support and advice to students on academic, personal and career matters, managing tutee meetings as required
* Work with the Programme Director, Student Services Manager and other Administration staff to resolve any performance issues that students may present.

4. Maintaining professional relationships with the academic and wider art-world community in order to enhance the CEDU brand
* Represent Christie’s Education at academic conferences and other events
* Contribute to the programme of lectures and activities for the wider Alumni community of Christie’s Education
* Engage with Christie’s Core Business when required and as requested
* Take part in recruitment activities both nationally and internationally where appropriate
* Interview students for accredited courses as appropriate

5. Accurate record keeping
* Keep appropriate files and records of marks and attendance and liaise with Academic Administrator for transfer to database
* Keep records of discussions at tutorials and be able to identify and communicate any matters arising in a timely way
* Report on personal academic activities to the Programme Director

6. Team work
* Actively participate as part of the academic staff to ensure smooth running of all courses
* Attend and contribute to all appropriate staff meetings
* Liaise with administrative staff to solve logistical and other problems as necessary

Skills and Experience
* PhD or equivalent internationally recognised record of achievement in a relevant discipline
* Teaching experience and experience of marking student work, and administering mark schemes
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills and initiative
* Organisational skills including time management
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel & PowerPoint
* A willingness to engage with information technology in teaching, and use of social media to engage with students
