Process Engineer – West Sussex

Our cutting edge Mechanical & Biological Treatment plant in Horsham has the capacity to process over 280,000 tonnes of waste per year. The facility includes the mechanical recovery of both recyclable material and residual waste for RDF with any biodegradable material being treated within the AD plant to generate electricity. The plant has the ability to produce up to 4.5MW of electricity to power the MBT facility and export to the national grid.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • The Process Engineer will monitor plant processes to ensure that the operation is optimised and modifications are delivered on time / on budget without any EHS issues.
  • Works with the Operations Team on site to ensure KPIs of process yields and mass balance, are dynamically monitored. Undertaking detailed design reviews to develop the process to provide productivity savings.
  • Works with the Operations and Engineering Teams to ensure that all new equipment is commissioned in a safe and structured way. Ensuring all safety tests are controlled and delivered to Biffa requirements.
  • Will Project Manage and control improvements to both the process safety and operation of the process to ensure timelines and Budgets are achieved.
  • Will manage the Management of Change Process during the Commissioning of the site/ equipment to ensure changes are Safe/ recorded and add value to the business where appropriate.
  • Provides Process support to future tenders for Projects at the West Sussex Site by leading / running Design Reviews/ FMEA`s or Hazops.
  • Complete Weekly KPI`s and SPC charts to identify variations in the process.
  • Work with the Lab technicians to ensure accuracy of sampling and testing on the MBT plant.

Nature and Scope:

  • The Process Engineer needs to be a degree qualified Chemical or Mechanical Engineer. (Preferably with experience in Projects and Project management with experience of design reviews/ Hazops or FMEA`s).
  • The Process Engineer is responsible for monitoring the Process operations ensuring operations are in line with the site KPI`s.
  • The Process Engineer needs to be both technically strong and able to present arguments for development projects. The Process Engineer will need to Project Manage smaller projects as well as supporting designs for new processes or equipment.
  • Operations Team rely on the role for technical process support and leadership for the testing and development of new projects.

Experience:

  • Degree in Engineering discipline
  • 7 years Chemical / Mechanical Engineering and Process industry experience in a technical role
  • Ability to influence, lead and persuade others
  • Analytical; hands-on and has techniques for identifying and solving problems
  • Highly numerate and literate, both in verbal and written forms
  • Relevant business qualification IOSH Certificate or equivalent formal safety qualification
  • Ideally experienced with Anaerobic digestion process plants in the waste or waste water sector
  • Experience with plant automation controls would be of benefit
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Able to travel throughout the UK for business purposes
