At B&Q it’s our job to make home improvement easier for our customers by giving them the inspiration, materials and practical know-how to turn their dreams into a reality. For that to happen, our stores need the right people to take the lead, inspiring and motivating the team to deliver the best customer service there is. Working as a Department Manager you’ll get to do just that, enjoying high levels of responsibility and plenty of variety along the way.

In a nutshell, you’ll run your own ‘store within a store’, creating an exciting place to both shop and work. That means as a Department Manager, you’ll be involved in everything from motivating your team to developing long-term sales growth within the store. Every day you’ll expertly delegate tasks, allocate resources, and make informed commercial decisions based on our customers’ needs. In fact, you’ll be a customer ‘champion’, working on the shop floor alongside your team to increase sales and inspire our customers to carry out their home projects with absolute confidence.

It’s a high-pressure role, so we’re looking for a Department Manager with a proven track record of leading, inspiring and motivating a team in a customer-facing environment, as well as successfully achieving targets and KPIs. With a genuine passion for people and a commitment to our shared values of ‘Customer’, ‘Family’ and ‘Can do’, you’ll be proactive, open-minded, and a natural leader – confident to take action and considered risks while empowering those around you. It’s important that you’re flexible about when you can work too, as you’ll be covering store opening hours on a rota basis, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays. A valid driving licence is preferable. To really excel as a Department Manager, you’ll also need high levels of focus, energy and drive.

We’re big on encouraging promotion from within and work hard to create opportunities through initiatives like our Aspire Talent Programme, giving colleagues the scope to accelerate their development and rise through the ranks. Join the team, and build a career to be proud of. You can do it!
